What I’m Creating: Brittany Bailey of Pretty Handy Girl

General contractor and blogger Brittany Bailey is hunkering down—and rediscovering a passion.

Brittany Bailey, of the blog PrettyHandyGirl, started her brand as an outlet to share her DIY projects, and was able to channel her passion into a full-time job. On the way, she became one of the few female licensed general contractors in the Raleigh area, and moved from smaller-scale projects inside her home to full-house renovations in this area (check out her Instagram for the play-by play). We asked if she’s turned back towards DIY projects at home. Says Bailey:

I recently finished renovating a house near downtown to keep as a rental, so I was gearing up to start working on our own house with a bathroom remodel, master bedroom closet renovation, and project to convert the attic into livable space. But this coronavirus has us hunkering down. For my family’s safety, we are not going out unless it’s an emergency. On the flip side, I’m not letting any subcontractors into our house until COVID-19 is gone.

To cope, I’ve been reaching way back to my illustration roots (I used to be a greeting card artist!). I am forcing myself to create one painting a day and sharing the process with my audience—you can find that in my FREE Art Lessons story series. I’m still feeling out the process and am switching between social platforms until I find the easiest way to quickly record and share. For now there are links on my Instagram page and saved in the highlights.

During this time, I’m hoping others will find inspiration on my website for ways to organize, create, and maybe take on a DIY project or two with things you can find around the house (like, how about using up that scrap wood with 71 Practically Free Scrap Wood Projects?).

Other than that I’m trying to spend time outside each day by walking the dog, working in the yard, and getting my early spring veggies planted… much like everyone else!
