WALTER, along with dozens of local and statewide publications, is a member of the North Carolina Press Association. Since 1873, the NCPA has supported North Carolina newspapers, readership and advertising. It works to protect the public’s right to know through the defense of First Amendment freedoms and supporting access to local, state and federal governments.

The NCPA also holds an annual competition between its members to review our work. It announced many of the winners in July. We at WALTER are thrilled to have received awards in several categories including feature writing, community coverage and feature photography.

More winners, including general excellence, will be announced on September 18 during the NCPA’s annual convention in Cary.
